The John Deere Classic is a PGA Tour professional golf event. Every year, it takes place at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, a part of the Quad Cities, the week before the Open Championship. The Open Qualifying Series gives a player who is not already exempt one more chance to qualify for the Open if he finishes in the top five at the John Deere Classic.
Originally held in 1971 under the name Quad Cities Open, the tournament was a "satellite event" on the PGA Tour. In 1972, it was recognized as a formal tour event. The event was hosted by Ed McMahon from 1975 until 1979. The following companies have sponsored the title: John Deere (since 1999), Hardee's (1986–1994), and Miller Brewing Company (1982–1985).
The tournament was held at the Crow Valley Country Club in Davenport, Iowa, from its founding in 1971 until 1974. From 1975 to 1999, it was located at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois. Since 2000, the event has taken place at Silvis' TPC at Deere Run.
