Matthieu Pavon and Victor Perez failed to win a medal for Team France at the men's golf event at the Paris Olympics. With the women's golf event left, there's still hope in the French camp.
Celine Boutier and Perrine Delacour will represent France in the women's golf event starting on Wednesday, August 7, at Le Golf National. Delacour got a few tips from Pavon before her event.
Talking about it in the pre-tournament press conference, Delacour said (via ASAP Sports):
"Like we had the men's before and that was good, and yesterday I spent some time with Matthieu asking a couple questions like how he felt on the first tee to kind of have a couple tips and get ready for Wednesday."
She was further asked about what advice Pavon gave him for the Paris Olympics. Delacour said:
"Breathe. He actually struggled the first tee last Thursday. He was emotionally like way like super high, which is normal. You don't expect to have that on the first tee -- he did say during the end of the week, he was so much emotion on Thursday that he struggled during the week.
Matthieu Pavon finished 58th in a field of 60 players at Le Golf and scored 71, 75, 77 and 74 in the four rounds. Perrine Delacour took a lesson and said:
"That for myself personally helped me, like, okay, I need to put some rest early in the week to be able to carry it for four days in a row."
Delacour won her first European Tour event two months ago. Her maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) victory came at Dormy Open Helsingborg in the playoffs where she won with a birdie on the first extra hole against Helem Briem. However, her performance on the LPGA Tour has been dismal. In the 13 starts, she has only one top-25 finish and seven missed cuts.
