Tom Kim was quite upset with the lack of support from the Canadian crowd at the Presidents Cup. He added that it was too quiet being on home soil.
Tom Kim was paired alongside Sungjae Im for his first four-ball match against Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley. However, they faced a 3&2 defeat against the American duo as the hosts were down by 5-0 after the first day.
During the post-round interview, Kim expressed disappointment over fewer fans coming up to cheer the International team.
"When the crowds are with us, it definitely helps when you can kind of get loud," he said. "I think it was a little too quiet today being on home soil. I wish they would have helped us out a bit more, especially being in Canada.
"I know how much they love golf. I'm definitely expecting more crowds to be louder and for them to be on our side," he added.
Fans online had mixed reactions to Tom Kim's comments. Many asked the International team to perform better to get better fan support. Here's a look at some of the responses:
"Home soil? How many Canadians on the team?" one fan reacted.
"They gave them zero reasons to be loud, you expect roars from tap ins?" another fan posted.
"Come onnnnnnnnnnnn. What you need us to bring our pet bevers , maple syrup flavoured beer and go wild ? That’s what was missing ? My parents live 10 min walk from the course I’ll ask them to do that tomorrow," one fan commented.
"This event is absolutely finished and not many people pay attention any more but seriously…. Give the fans a REASON to cheer for something!! ANYTHING," another user remarked.
"Hitting a few more fairways and sinking a couple more putts would have helped too, Tom. You’re the one inside the ropes with a club in your hands. Bad form to blame the fans," one user opined.
"Thought Kim and Im showed poor etiquette/ behaviour when going to the 9th tee while Schefffler was still putting on the 8th green," one fan posted.
