Former U.S. President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden recently had an exchange about golf, in which there was even talk about a contest between the two. The conversation occurred at the last presidential debate before Biden withdrew from the race for re-election.
Golf is a sensitive topic for Joe Biden and Donald Trump, as both are avid golfers. Recently, Trump claimed that he even made a cash offer for a match-up against the current U.S. president.
This claim by Trump was made during a YouTube video for the PGA Memes channel that was posted this Tuesday, August 27. This is what Trump said:
"I offered him [Joe Biden] a million dollars. He said he's a 6 [handicap], I said 'you're not a 60'. He's not a 60. So, I said, 'I'll give you a million dollars if you can break 100.' I said, 'a million, a million if you can break 100'. Now a 6 can break 100 easy, but he can't." [15:24 - 15:45]
According to Athlon Sports (citing the official handicap index of the United States Golf Association, USGA), Donald Trump has a handicap of 2.5, while Joe Biden's is 6.7. The caveat is that Biden's handicap has not been updated since 2018.
The presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden took place last June, when the current U.S. president was still running for re-election. Both politicians traded lines about being able to beat the other in a golf competition and doubting their opponent's abilities.
Donald Trump, YouTube and Golf
The video posted by PGA Memes is Donald Trump's second appearance on a golf YouTube channel in just over a month. The previous one was a hit, going viral in a matter of hours.
It is a video from the "Break 50" series on the channel of two-time major champion and reigning US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau. The video surpassed 6 million views in less than 24 hours and currently has more than 11.9 million views after four weeks of posting.
The video also served as a fundraiser for U.S. veterans. A $10,000 donation was made for each stroke under par, for a total of $220,000, as the score was 22 under 50. In addition, fans donated more than $33,500.
This was an important video for Bryson DeChambeau's channel, which gained more than 500,000 subscribers after the video was posted. DeChambeau's channel currently has more than 1.4 million subscribers.
Days later, former President Trump's eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, also appeared in a golf video on popular influencer Grant Horvat's channel. The video garnered more than 1 million views.
Kai Trump is a well-known junior golfer on the South Florida golf circuit. She is currently a student at the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, where Tiger Woods' son, Charlie Woods, is one of her classmates.
