Shane Lowry is gearing up to participate in DP World Tour's Amgen Irish Open. The tournament will be held from Thursday, September 12 to Sunday, September 15, at the Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Down.
Shane Lowry is currently positioned 33rd in the Race to Dubai rankings. Lowry won the 2009 Irish Open as an amateur in a playoff against Robert Rock with a par on the third extra hole. He'll be looking to win his second Irish Open this year.
In the pre-tournament press conference, Shane Lowry was asked about his schedule next year, he said (via ASAP Sports):
"My schedule is obviously going to be a little bit different next year because I'm going to be in the Signature events at the start of the year and I won't have to play some of the other events. My schedule will play the same, I'll play a similar right. I feel like I got it right this year to a certain extent."
Lowry did not participate in either the Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, or the Genesis Invitational which took place in the beginning of the 2024 season. He further said:
"I feel like the January to August PGA TOUR season suits me perfectly where you start in January, and you just play as hard as you can until August. We've got to come back here and play, but I get a break."
Lowry's countryman Rory McIlroy said he would cut down his tournament in 2025 as he had a tight 2024 season. Mcllroy has played in 22 tournaments so far and is slated to play in five more tournaments this year. Talking about it, Shane Lowry said:
"Like, I'll be fine. It's only golf. It's not like -- I met a fellow, I was getting a coffee in the morning, I met a fellow, he was painting houses. I was like, you're going out to the real world, and I'm playing golf. I'll be fine."
Lowry has played 22 tournaments so far with 20 of them on PGA Tour. After the Irish Open, he'll next play at the Spanish Open.
