Recently, Adam Scott, one of PGA Tour's Player Directors, addressed the situation and shed light on the reasons behind the delay, to which fans shared ther reaction. The Australian golfer acknowledged that the primary reason for the holdup is the slow process caused by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

The potential deal between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been in the works since July 2023. Several meetings have taken place since then, and the PGA Tour even signed a new deal with Strategic Sports Group. However, negotiations with the PIF have yet to reach a conclusion.

Speaking about the PGA-PIF merger, Scott explained:

"Soon there should be more movement… But it’s very difficult to bring all of this together, certainly from a competitions layout. It’s a lot. Someone has to compromise their product. I don’t like the sound of that generally. Who’s going to do it? Everyone a little bit? That’s not good. Someone a lot? That person is not going to be happy. It’s really a tricky one.”

Fans expressed disappointment in the comments section regarding the prolonged discussions over the deal.

"Excuses. The whole thing is bunk," a fan wrote.
"Merge or forget about it," another fan said.
"One has millions of fans/viewers, makes money. The other completely opposite. Pretty easy," a fan said.

One fan suggested the leagues shouldn’t merge at all.

"The leagues should NOT be joined together. Let LIV stay in their own lane. It’s a different product. No interest in watching or supporting those players. They left for money and went to play for terrorists," another fan said.

Another slammed the slow progress.

"How is this still going on.. LIV is f***ing trash . Really, it’s embarrassing. There’s no compromise just shut it the f**k down and let the boys keep their money and come back to real golf," one more fan added.

Some fans, however, expressed indifference, saying they don’t care about the update.

"Adam “Scotty” is the man! Top 3 favorite professionals. Hope he finds another big win. And awesome he gave an update. Even tho, we don’t care anymore," another fan said.
"Sounds like @PGATOUR is under investigation by the DOJ..," one more added.

Adam Scott reflects on Players' Directors role in PGA-PIF deal discussions

The PGA Tour has established a Player Advisory Council, which includes six Player Directors who play a crucial role in discussing the deal with the PIF. In a recent interview, Adam Scott reflected on the significance of the players' involvement and praised their efforts. He said (via AP):

“I’m more than happy to say ... the six guys fight like hell for the player groups — all of them. I really think it was a fairly well balanced group of guys that had a lot of disagreements about stuff but really came to a consensus on all of it.
“We reminded each other of what we’re here to do. We’re not here to run the business. We’re here to make sure the membership has the best chance. I think they’ve done a good job," he added.

The PGA Tour Player Directors include Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Camilo Villegas, and Tiger Woods. Previously, Rory McIlroy was part of the Player Directors but stepped down after the merger announcement with PIF.

While discussions about the PGA Tour-PIF deal continue, the PGA Tour has already begun 2025 with the season-opening Sentry Tournament last week. Meanwhile, LIV Golf is set to start its fourth season in February.
