Tiger Woods allegedly declined to take over the captaincy of the U.S. team for the 2025 Ryder Cup, according to a report in The Telegraph. Social media has been abuzz with rumors that this would open the door for Stewart Cink to take the position.

Fans have reacted to this possibility on all platforms. A large portion of them do not look favorably on Stewart Cink taking over as team captain for the Ryder Cup.

One X (formerly Twitter) user posted the following:

"It should be Phil, but it never will be."

Let's take a look at some other reactions on X:

"Why is it every few decades Stewart Cink rearrives to ruin a good story," one fan posted.
"Stew Cink exudes the same vibes as Zach Johnson. 0% alpha," another user wrote.
"No. Dear Golf Gods no….," another fan said.

According to a report by The Telegraph, Tiger Woods has refused to replace Zach Johnson as the head of the American team that will play the Ryder Cup in 2025. The reason would be that Woods is deeply immersed in negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia.

While Phil Mickelson was not mentioned in the report, he has been a fan-driven option since the previous edition. Mickelson has played in 12 editions of the Ryder Cup with three victories and holds several records for the event.

The alleged options for the captaincy, according to the report, are Stewart Cink, Fred Couples and Davis Love III.

Cink has played in five editions of the Ryder Cup, with one victory (2008), but has never led the team. Couples also had five appearances as a player, with two wins (1991, 1993) and one draw (1989). He has also never assumed the captaincy.

Loves III participated as a player in six editions of the Ryder Cup, with two victories (1993 and 1999). He has also led the team twice (2012, 2016), with victory in the latter.

His best performances were in the 2006 and 2010 editions. In the former, he won three points in five matches, while in the latter, he won three points in four matches. Woods stood out mainly in singles, with four wins, two draws and two defeats.

Tiger Woods' record in team golf events includes nine appearances in the Presidents Cup, with seven wins and one tie. In 2019, he acted as playing captain in what was his seventh victory.
