“People think I am some kind of crazy” – When John Daly addressed people’s ‘wild’ valuation of him

John Daly once addressed people viewing him as "wild." That year, Daly had been part of some controversial moments. The previous year, he had served a 6 months-long PGA ban after he had been locked up in North Carolina.

More controversy followed as he went to smash the camera of a fan at the 2009 Australian Open. Speaking in May, Daly addressed the "wild" tag, saying (via The Mirror),

“It was because we had some fun in South Africa one year that they nicknamed me 'The Wild Thing'. It was during the million-dollar tournament many years ago when me, Ian Woosnam and Steve Elkington had some fun one night.

“But the people around me, who know me, realise I am not a wild guy. People think I am some kind of crazy, lunatic wild man but I am not…I am more laid back and don't do anything when I am at a tournament. I don't really go anywhere but people seem to think I do and it is funny. I am in bed by eight every night pretty much.”

Daly, winner of the 1995 British Open, also spoke about his British fans, saying they wanted to watch him play good golf more than anything else.
