The Sentry is the first event of the PGA Tour's 2025 season and its first Signature Event. The tournament will be played at its regular venue, the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort in Hawaii.

The field for The Sentry 2025 features 59 players. All tournament winners from the 2024 season automatically qualified for the event as well as all players who finished in the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings last season.

One notable absence from The Sentry field is Scottie Scheffler due to a domestic accident. In his absence, Xander Schauffele is the odds-on favorite to win the tournament according to oddsmakers.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Schauffele at +500 to win The Sentry, 500 points ahead of second-best ranked Collin Morikawa:

A look at the history of The Sentry

The Sentry was established in 1953 as the PGA Tour's Tournament of Champions. That status remains today, although it became a Signature Event a few years ago and its field was expanded to include members of the previous season's FedEx Cup Top 50.

As a winner's tournament, the field has traditionally been strong. Several legends have won the title, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods.

Nicklaus holds the record for most victories with five, while Gene Littler has the largest margin of victory with 13 strokes (1955). The 'Aggregate' and 'To Par' records (34-under 258) belong to Cameron Smith, who won in 2022. Smith's record is also the lowest score in PGA Tour history.

The tournament has been played at the Plantation Course, Kapalua Resort, Maui, Hawaii since 1999. It was previously played at the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada (1953 - 1956), the Stardust Country Club (1967, 1968), also in Las Vegas, and the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California (1969 - 1998).
