LIV Golf had a successful third season in 2024. This year was filled with surprises for the Saudi league's fans. Jon Rahm made his debut, while Anthony Kim returned to golf after a 12-year hiatus.
LIV golfers also shone in the Majors this season, and then in December, there was the LIV Golf and PGA Tour match. 2024 has had some amazing storylines in LIV Golf, and some of them are listed below.
Top five 2024 LIV Golf storylines
1. Anthony Kim's most-anticipated return
One of the most interesting parts this season was the return of Anthony Kim.
The American golfer was on a hiatus for 12 years, but he finally made a wildcard entry into the Saudi league earlier this year. However, he majorly struggled with his game on the circuit this year.
2. Bubba Watson's season ends in the drop zone
Bubba Watson struggled in the Saudi league and wrapped up the season in the drop zone.
Speaking of his challenging time on the circuit, the American said (via Irish Star):
"I told my team if they don't think I am good enough to play, they can kick me out and we will put another good golfer in my place. I am going to play until they kick me out. I love helping the young guys."
Watson failed to land a single top-10 finish in 2024.
3. Jon Rahm's debut
This season, Jon Rahm made his debut in the league with the season-opening event in Mayakoba. He has been phenomenal with his game in his debut and even won the Individual Championship.
Rahm started the season with a T3 finish and then had a solo eighth-position finish at the Las Vegas event. His first win came at the UK event, and then he won the Chicago event and ultimately wrapped up the season as the Individual Championship winner.
4. Bryson DeChambeau wins the US Open
Bryson DeChambeau shone in the Majors in 2024. The LIV golfer won his second at the U.S. Open, held at Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course. He registered a one-shot win over Rory McIlroy to claim the title.
DeChambeau also made headlines in 2024 for his active presence on social media and his popular "Break 50" challenge on YouTube.
5. The new team
In 2024, LIV Golf also introduced a new team, Legion XIII. Until last year, there were only 12 teams. However, in 2024, there were a total of 13 teams in the series.
Jon Rahm is the captain of Legion XIII, and its other team members include Tyrrell Hatton, Kieran Vincent, and Caleb Surratt.
