Bryson DeChambeau has made his way to the top of the leaderboard at the end of the third round at the US Open 2024. The 124th edition of the tournament is being held at Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course in North Carolina.
DeChambeau carded a 3-under 67 in the third round to finish with an aggregate score of 7-under 203. He is currently three shots ahead of Matthieu Pavon, Rory Mcllroy and Patrick Cantlay who are tied for second.
After the round, the 30-year-old stayed back to sign autographs. He thanked the fans, saying (via PGA Tour):
"Yeah, it was amazing. I can't thank them enough. It was a blessing. Man, they riled me up."
Here is a video of him with the fans.
The LIV Golfer also returned to practice in the dark after his round.
Bryson DeChambeau started with a 67 in the first round and was positioned T4 at the end of the first day. He carded a 69 to finish T2 with Ludvig Aberg on Friday.
On Saturday, DeChambeau scored lowest after Collin Morikawa's 66. He scored a bogey on the 4th hole and two birdies on the 5th and 7th on the front nine. He started with two consecutive birdies on the back nine, on the 10th and 11th holes, with two more on the 14th and 17th holes, along with a double bogey on the par-4 16th.
Bryson DeChambeau's only victory at the US Open came in 2020 when he won by six strokes over Matthew Wolff at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York. After his third round at this year's Major, the LIV Golfer said that he'd be playing safe and targeting the middle of the greens.
"Just going to say it. Tomorrow it's the same quote I've said all week: Trying to have boring golf. Middle of the greens never moves."
