JJ Spaun is currently competing in the 2024 Black Desert Championship. The inaugural edition of the tournament is third tournament of the PGA Tour's eight-event fall schedule and is being played at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah. The first round concluded on Thursday, October 10.
On the first shot of the par-3 17th hole, JJ Spaun came close to carding a hole-in-one. He made a splendid tee shot straight towards the flag. The ball landed softly on the green and moved towards the hole. However, just as it neared the hole, it lipped out and came to rest right on the edge.
The video of Spaun's first shot on 17th hole was posted by PGA Tour on X and can be watched below.
The ball rested just three 3 inches short of the hole and JJ Spaun scored a birdie on the hole. He scored 2-under 69 and tied for 62 after the end of the first round.
On the front nine, the 34-year-old scored a birdie on the 3rd hole against two bogeys on par-4 first and par-3 eighth. On the back-nine, he notched three birdies on the 13th, 17th and 18th holes. He is currently tied with the likes of Pierceson Coody, Chad Ramey, Nick Taylor, Lucas Glover and Keith Miller, among others.
Canada's Adam Svensson is on the top of the leaderboard with a score of 11-under 60. Henrik Norlander and Matt McCarty are tied for second with a score of 9-under 62. The winner of the Black Desert Championship will take home $1.35 million from a total tournament's purse of $7.5 million.
