Who won the inaugural Team Cup? Match results explored

The first edition of the DP World Tour's Team Cup ended with Team Great Britain and Ireland's dominating victory over Team Continental Europe. Team GB&I registered a 16.5-7.5 win over Continental Europe in the three-day tournament held at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.

On Sunday, January 12, Team GB&I entered the final round of the Team Cup with 11 points and needed just two points from the eight singles matches to win. Laurie Canter earned the first point for them by beating Romain Langasque 5&4.

Canter dominated the game right from the first hole and never trailed throughout the match. With two straight birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, he sealed the fate of the game.

The winning point was secured by British veteran Tommy Fleetwood, who posted a 3&1 win over Matthieu Pavon of France. Although the Frenchman never took the lead in the match, he tried hard to take the game to the end. However, with a birdie on the par-4 17th hole, Fleetwood made history as GB&I became the first-ever winner of the Team Cup.
