Puerto Rico Open 2024: Dates, Tee Times, Location and Field Course/List

The Puerto Rico Open is a professional golf championship on the PGA Tour that was first staged in 2008. In its history, Puerto Rico has only played home to one PGA Tour event. The Coco Beach Golf Course, the tournament site, was constructed by Tom Kite. The Trump International Golf Club Puerto Rico was its previous name. From its founding until 2015, it was staged as a stand-in event for the WGC-Cadillac Championship in early March. But in 2016, it was moved to late March to avoid conflicting with the Dell Match Play WGC. All four rounds are broadcast on the Golf Channel.

Since no event winner had ever gone on to win another tournament, the event had been regarded as an unofficial "curse" on the PGA Tour. The sole exception was Michael Bradley, who never won another PGA Tour competition but did win the Puerto Rico Open twice, in 2011 and 2009. But after winning the Puerto Rico Open earlier in the year, Viktor Hovland broke the "curse" by winning the Mayakoba Golf Classic in December 2020.

Puerto Rico Open 2024 Date and start time

This year, the Puerto Rico Open is scheduled to begin on March 7 and go through March 10. The Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande will host it as usual. Players with exemptions to the event are anticipated to come from South America, Central America, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. This is the unique selling point of the Puerto Rico Open. It's a wonderful opportunity to watch rising talent play against more established PGA Tour players in a gorgeous coastal setting.

This time, Ben Kohles exceeded him and emerged victorious in the Puerto Rico Championship! He didn't have a smooth start, though; Ben Kohles has withdrawn from one tournament and missed three cuts in his last four appearances. But in this championship, he leads by himself with 18 holes remaining in the 2024 Puerto Rico Open at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande. On Saturday, Kohles recorded a 9-under 63, the highest performance relative to par in his PGA Tour career. He set himself up for his maiden Tour triumph with a perfect score with nine birdies and nine pars.

Puerto Rico Open 2024 Course details

Grand Reserve is one of Puerto Rico's best-kept golf course secrets, home to the Championship and International courses. It is located in the suburb of Río Grande.

The resort, once known as Trump International Puerto Rico and later as Coco Beach Golf & Country Club, is a hotel chain owned by Hyatt Regency. Renowned Tour professional, Tom Kite designed both courses. The quality and attention to detail of Kite are apparent as one tees off towards the magnificent forested hillside of El Yunque National Park. The Championship layout takes you on a thorough, immersive tour through a variety of settings, even if it lacks the tremendous elevation changes of the International course's initial nine holes.
