The Players Championship 2024 Course details
The Players Championship is held at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Based on the initial idea by former PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane R. Beman, The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, the permanent home of The Players Championship, was built in 1980. This Tournament Players Club was the first to open 44 years earlier, constructed in the autumn of 1980. As the first real Stadium Course, its objective was to improve the entire in-stadium viewing experience. Renowned golf course architect Pete Dye worked with Commissioner Deane Beman to create a layout that was genuinely balanced and did not favour any one style of play over another.
The Sawgrass complex on Ponte Vedra Beach is home to the TPC Sawgrass. The Stadium Course and the Valley Course are two distinct courses. Known as one of the world's most challenging golf courses, the Stadium Course was designed and created by renowned architects Pete and Alice Dye. Specifically designed to house The Players Championship, it utilises a unique "stadium" concept: just like in other sports, spectators at the TPC are seated in "stands" composed of elevated grass mounds. It is renowned for its trademark hole, the par-3, 137-yard (125-metre) 17th hole, also referred to as the "Island Green," which is among the most challenging and iconic holes in golf. It can accommodate 36,000 people.
