The Players Championship 2025 is set to take place from March 13 to 16 at the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. A field of 144 players will compete for the $25 million purse, with the winner receiving $4.5 million. The Players Championship was established in 1974 by then-PGA Commissioner Deane Beman. However, it was known as the "Tournament Players Championship" and its prefix was dropped in 1987.
The inaugural event was won by Jack Nicklaus and held at the Atlantic Country Club. In 1982, the event was relocated to the TPC at Sawgrass. The tournament, which the PGA Tour stylized as THE PLAYERS Championship, is the most important and one of its signature tournaments. It is often considered the fifth major championship because of its tough course, stronger field, and bigger prize.
