The Players Championship 2025 will be held at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, from March 13-16. The Players Championship is the flagship event of the PGA Tour and is also referred to as the fifth major, though it isn't. The event has a $25 million purse, a field of 144 golfers, and the TPC Sawgrass 7,245-yard course.
The Players Championship is annually held at the Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass, designed by Pete and Alice Dye. The event's most famous hole is the island green, the 17th hole on the course, which was accidentally formed when sand was removed, leaving a crater in its wake. Thus, at Alice Dye's request, the hole was built and is now remembered for.
The Players Championship Trophy 2025
The Players Championship trophy was designed by Tiffany & Co. in 2019. The trophy, which is 17 inches tall and weighs around eight pounds, is made of sterling silver and 24k gold vermeil. The finished product requires 115 hours of work in around six months (via Tiffany & Co.).
The Tiffany & Co. design team modeled a golfer, whose shape was 3D-printed into a mold. The golfer is standing on the iconic 17th island green, which has fine elements like the surrounding water and Pete Dye's signature pilings.
To provide a smooth and seamless finish, electroforming builds up layers of precious metal around a temporary core using electric current. Designers then used advanced computer modeling to combine elements of each of the 38 winners of The Players, ranging from Webb Simpson to Jack Nicklaus (via The Players Championship).

The Players Championship Trophies History
From the Players Championship's founding in 1974, which was then known as the "Tournament Players Championship," to 1981, the winners used to receive a wood and bronze plaque. This plaque was called the "Joseph C. Dey Jr. Trophy." It was named for the Dey, who was crucial in bringing the R&A and USGA together to establish uniform golf rules (via Golf Digest).
In 1982, an effort was put forth to make the trophy match the standards of the PGA Tour's signature event; thus, they came up with a "huge black granite slab with silver trees and a golden golfer." However, this to be given as a trophy did not seem like the most feasible option (via Golf Digest).
So they used an alternative of a trophy made of crystals. To engrave the fine details of the golf landscape on the face of the crystal, Waterford Crystal designers would need up to 40 hours. It was further altered in 2007, 25 years later, to make room for the winner's name at the bottom (via Golf Digest).
Regardless of being one of the most sophisticated trophies, it lacked the dramatic exclamation that the PGA wanted for the Players Champions. This was accomplished in 2019 when Tiffany & Co. created a gold trophy featuring a golfer standing on the 17th hole with a perfect swing (via Golf Digest).
