Founded in 1934, Augusta National Golf Club hosts the Masters Tournament, one of golf's four major championships, every year. Originally known as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, it was founded by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones and changed its name to the Masters Tournament in 1939. The event was canceled on only one occasion, during World War II from 1943 to 1945.
At the Masters Tournament, several traditions are to be followed, including the Champions Dinner, first hosted by Ben Hogan in 1952, the Par 3 Contest introduced in 1960, and an honorary tee shot by a past champion to commence the event. Also, the winner has received a green jacket since 1949 and a lifetime invitation to compete.
