The absence of a new Grand Theft Auto title in the last decade resulted in players putting in a lot of hours in GTA 5. Its multiplayer receiving fresh content regularly via free DLCs has also contributed to this, which is why many in the title's community boast thousands of hours of in-game time.

The OP also asked others about how much time they had spent playing the game so far, to which u/ChloeWade replied with the following:

"4886 on Xbox, 8153 on PC, 111 on PS5. So 13,150 total."

The statistic surprised quite a few, to say the least, with u/EricKeane69 suggesting that would be equivalent to nearly two years of their life.

There were others who also reported playing GTA 5 for over a thousand hours so far, such as u/ZetaSagittariii, who has spent 3500 hours, and u/NachoBishhh, who even with a three-year break has 4,895 hours of in-game time as of yet.

Another Redditor, u/kp688, stated that they have been playing GTA 5 since it launched on PS3 and now have a total of over 6,000 hours across all console generations.

What's interesting is that these statistics could increase greatly by the time the GTA 6 release date arrives next year. Additionally, with the Grand Theft Auto sequel only being available on PS5 and Xbox series X/S consoles at launch, PC and last-gen console users might continue playing this game.

Many GTA 5 players have spent thousands of hours in the game

Grand Theft Auto 5's fun story mode and multiplayer have greatly contributed to the title's success. It is currently the best-selling game in the series, having sold over 200 million copies as of this writing, and enjoys a dedicated playerbase that has spent thousands of hours playing it, as can be inferred from the comments above.

Notably, there is also a considerable section of its community that is now bored and is eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6. However, until this long-awaited sequel releases, which would be at some point during Fall 2025, they will have to continue playing the 2013 game (if not any other video game) to keep themselves entertained.

Rockstar released another free GTA Online DLC this June, Bottom Dollar Bounties, and is expected to drop a few more leading up to the next Grand Theft Auto title's launch, which should keep players busy for countless hours.
