Grand Theft Auto fans have had to wait a really long time for GTA 6, and they still are, since the game is scheduled to launch in Fall 2025. In the meantime, Grand Theft Auto 5's multiplayer, GTA Online, has kept them entertained. It is now a little over 11 years old, and still pretty popular among gamers. However, it undeniably has some shortcomings, as well as features that players don't seem to like.
While it isn't known what the upcoming title's potential multiplayer will be like (since it hasn't even been announced yet), there are some things that Rockstar Games should avoid adding to it. On that note, here are five GTA Online features that GTA 6 Online (not an official title) shouldn't have.
Note - This article is subjective and only reflects the writer's opinions. Also, we have referred to the potential GTA 6 multiplayer as GTA 6 Online throughout the article, but readers should remember that it's not an official title.
Let's look at 5 GTA Online features that GTA 6 Online shouldn't have
1) Shark Cards
Shark Cards, GTA Online's version of microtransactions, are likely the most disliked feature among players. Shark Cards can be bought with real money to gain a certain amount of in-game cash, allowing the buyer to skip the hard work.
Needless to say, a pay-to-win mechanic like this is unfair to anyone who grinds all the businesses, heists, and other missions for hours on end to get at the same level in GTA Online.
2) Futuristic vehicles
Futuristic vehicles are another controversial subject in the GTA Online community. Rockstar has added plenty of them, but many in the fanbase argue that they do not fit in the series' setting. Grand Theft Auto games have mostly explored realistic stories about crime, and a lot of the fans want to see more of that in GTA 6 Online instead of sci-fi elements.
Admittedly, futuristic vehicles like the Pegassi Oppressor MK II (a weaponized flying bike) are very useful for traversal. However, Rockstar Games should look to help players with that in some other way — perhaps something like the fast-travel mechanic introduced in the recent Agents of Sabotage update.
3) Not being able to keep stolen high-end cars
Stealing cars from the street is one of the fundamental features of Grand Theft Auto games. However, some high-end cars cannot be customized or kept when stolen from NPCs in GTA Online. The only method of permanently acquiring them is buying legally from in-game websites.
This is quite ironic for a game titled Grand Theft Auto. So, Rockstar should instead make them rare in GTA 6 Online. This way, players won't get all the expensive cars for free, but still have the option to, just less frequently.
4) Mandatory multiplayer heists
Heists are one of GTA Online's most popular activities, and Rockstar Games has added a lot of them over the years. The Cayo Perico Heist is possibly the most popular, and one of the reasons for that is that it can be done solo. However, other profitable heists, like The Diamond Casino Heist, mandatorily require more than one player.
It is understandable that GTA Online is a multiplayer title, but many prefer playing alone in private sessions. However, the requirement of other players often stops them from experiencing these heists. As such, it would be better if all of GTA 6 Online's jobs are open to solo players too.
5) Body Armor mechanic
GTA Online offers different levels of Body Armor, each filling the Body Armor bar up to a certain level. That being said, all of them take damage at pretty much the same rate. Even the toughest one in the game, the Super Heavy Body Armor gets destroyed in just a few shots.
This mechanic needs to be overhauled in GTA 6 Online. Different Body Armor tiers can be carried over, but the best one should provide significant protection.
