GTA Online has come a long way since Rockstar Games rolled it out 10 years ago. It has undergone massive changes and received many expansions. While this has allowed the game to stay relevant and up to date with modern standards, several fans are curious about how the title in its present state is different from what it used to be. Veterans can easily identify the changes, whereas new players might not.
This article will list five major changes that the studio has implemented in the game over the past decade.
5 things that have changed in GTA Online over time
1) More business opportunities
One of the most significant features in today's GTA Online compared to its earlier version is the sheer number of business opportunities. The initial version only came with a handful of businesses and purchasable properties, and players had limited means to make money in the game.
Compared to that, 2024's online multiplayer mode has numerous businesses, ranging from Nightclubs and the Auto Shop to the newest Bottom Dollar Bail Enforcement. This showcases Rockstar Games' willingness to make the game better for everybody and offer more opportunities to make cash.
2) Addition of sci-fi weapons and vehicles
While GTA Online already had a variety of weird weapons and vehicles, Rockstar Games went in a completely different direction with the sci-fi weapons and vehicles. The Oppressor MK II, Widowmaker, and Unholy Hellbringer are a few examples of how much the game has changed over the years.
The online multiplayer mode didn't have any such weapon or vehicle in the past and almost nobody thought the developer would take this path. Now, the game has flying motorcycles and cars as well as weapons that shoot lasers. This makes the 2024 version of the game stand out much more.

3) The game is hospitable for solo players now
While GTA Online has evolved in numerous ways, a big change is how much better it has become for solo players. Rockstar Games has added a plethora of missions that one can complete without needing to join a team. This is certainly a significant tweak from the past and allows the game to be much more approachable.
The recent Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC update has also increased the base pay rate of certain jobs as well as increased the timer for the Sell missions for solo players. This is a huge improvement which is gaining appreciation from the community.
4) Vast improvement in the multiplayer features
GTA Online is not just about completing missions and talking to NPCs but also going into public lobbies and getting into PvP action. Rockstar Games understands this and has come a long way since the game's initial phase. The online multiplayer mode now supports more players on the server which allows them to interact with each other.
On top of that, the developer has also added several new features and game modes to let players fight against each other or team up to complete missions. This has changed the way players interact with each other and has ultimately made the game much more enjoyable. The Adversary Modes in the game have also made PvP interaction way better.
5) HSW and Imani Tech vehicles are a thing now
The initial version of GTA Online was quite basic and while it had numerous vehicles, they had normal customization and upgrade options. However, the 2024 version of the game is brimming with HSW and Imani Tech cars that have special features.
These features range from the boosted base top speed to the addition of a Missile Lock-On Jammer and extra Armor Plating. These have made the game quite futuristic and allow players to push the limits of the game as well as the vehicles. This is one of the major changes that anyone will notice. While these special vehicles are expensive, there are various GTA Online money glitches to overcome the difficulty.
