Rockstar Games offers over 100 weapons in GTA Online that players can acquire from various sources. While the studio designed most of the weapons with a balanced performance output, some are still overpowered in regards to their size and utilities. Such weapons can take out enemies more easily than other mainstream and frequently used weapons such as rifles and shotguns.

With that being said, this article lists five of the overpowered weapons in GTA Online that Rockstar Games should consider nerfing or balancing in 2025.

5 overly powerful weapons in GTA Online that should be balanced in 2025

1) Up-n-Atomizer

The Up-n-Atomizer is one of the most powerful handguns in GTA Online that can toss away most of the movable objects on the map. It is a futuristic weapon that releases a sonic wave. The wave is so powerful that it can move even heavy vehicles from their location. Moreover, due to the powerful shock, you cannot use the weapon nearby.

Even though the Up-n-Atomizer comes in handy in many situations, Rockstar Games should consider nerfing it a bit. The sonic wave should not move super heavy vehicles such as big trucks, tanks, and aircraft. Moreover, it should not be able to kill NPCs in one shot. While the GTA Online Agents of Sabotage DLC did not address it, Rockstar should nerf the weapon in the future.

2) Tear Gas

Tear Gas is a semi-lethal weapon in real life that causes severe irritations in the affected person(s) and does not necessarily kill them. However, the same weapon in GTA Online can kill any living creature within seconds.

Rockstar Games should change this property of the Tear Gas and make it semi-lethal. The popular throwable weapon should cause the affected persons to go unconscious instead of killing them altogether. Moreover, the gas masks in the multiplayer game should be able to prevent the effects of the Tear Gas.

3) Stun Gun

The Stun Gun also deserves a nerf in future GTA Online updates. The main purpose of the weapon is to stun the target with a mild electric shock. It is not necessarily built for killing. However, if you use the Stun Gun on NPCs more than twice, they get killed.

Rockstar Games should fix this issue in the multiplayer game and make the Stun Gun a non-lethal weapon. In addition to that, the recharge time should also be reduced, so that players can use the weapon more frequently. Currently, the Stun Gun is both overpowered and slow.

4) Stone Hatchet

Even though the Stone Hatchet is a special antique weapon, it is very powerful for its worth. The Red Dead Redemption 2-inspired axe and kill both NPCs and other players in one hit. It also puts you in a rampage mode very similar to Trevor Philips' Special Ability.

While the rampage mode is acceptable, Rockstar Games should nerf the damage rate of the Stone Hatchet. Similar to other axes, it should require at least two hits to kill enemies. The future GTA Online updates in 2025 should address this issue promptly.

5) Grenade Launcher

The Grenade Launcher has some minor yet weird issues that only eagle-eyed fans can notice. The main purpose of this weapon is to throw Grenades to longer distances. The launcher itself does not add any special features to the ammo.

However, if you fire the Grenade Launcher at any vehicle, it immediately goes off. After hitting or reaching the target, the Grenade should take a moment to blast. However, currently, it detonates instantly like a Proximity Mine. This oversight makes the weapon overpowered in the multiplayer game.
