Grand Theft Auto fans believe GTA 6 will be very different from any of its predecessors, and this idea seems to be supported by the trailer and the gameplay leaks. From what we've seen so far, the game appears to be much more advanced than previous entries in the series. More interesting is that it seems to be much more different than GTA 5.
While Rockstar Games made many advancements with Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013, it is now over a decade old. With that in mind, here are some reasons supporting the theory that GTA 6 will be very different from GTA 5 and other predecessors.
Note: This article is based on rumors, so it's advised to take the given information with a pinch of salt until officially confirmed by the developers.
5 reasons why GTA 6 will be very different from GTA 5
1) It has a larger and more diverse map
From what the trailer has showcased so far, the map of Leonida in the upcoming game seems massive. However, it's not just the size that's impressive but the sheer variety. Unlike GTA 5, where the large San Andreas map felt empty and there was only one major city, the GTA 6 map seems to be filled with places to explore.
Apart from Vice City, there might be another major settlement called Port Gellhorn, as well as several other smaller settlements like Hamlet, Gator Keys, and Yorktown. The map is an indication of how GTA 6 will be very different from GTA 5. However, fans should note that most of this information comes from gameplay leaks and speculations made by the mapping community.
2) It has two protagonists
GTA 5 was often criticized for having too many protagonists. The story felt disjointed at times as if it was trying to go in different directions. As a result, none of the protagonists felt fully fleshed out and most players didn't feel invested in their stories. Rockstar seems to have taken note of this and will be introducing only two GTA 6 protagonists.
The fact that they appear to share a love interest will also hopefully keep the story focused on the couple instead of diverging in different directions. Such type of a plot has never been seen before in the series, so we can confidently say that GTA 6 will be very different in terms of the storyline.
3) It has more immersive features
Another area in which GTA 6 will be very different is the realism of the game. Many features that made Grand Theft Auto IV feel immersive were dumbed down or omitted in GTA 5. However, Rockstar seems to be taking a step back to bring that realism or immersive factor back in their next game.
From what we've seen in the GTA 6 leaked footage, there seem to be some unique features like a limited weapon-carrying system, different methods and tools to break into cars, realistic police response, and a more believable reaction from NPCs when they're in a hold-up situation.
4) More gameplay features
One thing that almost everyone expects to see in the next game is the introduction of newer features or the refinement of existing ones. The leaks revealed that players will now be able to go prone, crouch, and the ability to not just pick up but also drop weapons. None of these features were in GTA 5, so it's easy to say that GTA 6 will be very different.
Car customization seems to be expanded as well since some cars in the GTA 6 trailer were sporting new paint and customization options.
5) Greater population density and variety
One of the earliest scenes in the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer showcases the Vice City beachline which appears crowded. The NPCs present are unique as they have different body types, sizes, and variations.
The scene depicting a modern rendition of Ocean Drive also highlights this aspect of the game. Thus, we can clearly say that GTA 6 will be very different in terms of NPC density and variety.
