With GTA 6 on the horizon, fans are worried about a potential delay in the game's release due to the recent AG-AFTRA strike. This is a genuine concern since the strike is bound to affect numerous upcoming games that are in active development. However, there is little chance of the strike affecting Rockstar Games' upcoming title for several reasons.
Below, we have provided some reasons why Rockstar Games will not delay GTA 6 despite the AG-AFTRA strike.
Note: Some parts of the article are subjective and are based on the writer's opinion. The entries on this list are arranged in no particular order.
5 reasons why the AG-AFTRA strike will not affect GTA 6 release
1) The game's development should be almost complete
GTA 6 has been under development for a long time. Since both Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have mentioned the release window for the game, most of its development may already be complete.
If this is true, fans do not have to worry about the game being delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike by video game voice actors. This is also because most developers get the voice-acting part done in the initial phase of the development period and do not wait for the final period.
2) The AG-AFTRA strike will most likely affect games that went into development around 2023
While there are different sources claiming which titles have been affected by the recent AG-AFTRA strike, a statement by the union has caused a lot of confusion. According to it, video games that went into development before late 2023 will not be affected by the strike. If this is true, then GTA 6 is safe from a delay.
This is because Rockstar Games started working on the game a long time ago. While there is no official information on this, most fans assume the studio began the work around 2017-18. Since the disastrous GTA 6 leak was around that time, it is clear that the game has been in active development much before 2023.
3) The AG-AFTRA strike status does not directly name GTA 6
AG-AFTRA has provided means that allow people to check the status of various games affected by the strike. However, upon searching, GTA 6 does not pop up in the results even after running various keywords like Grand Theft Auto VI, The Americans, or GTAVI.
This can be an indication that Rockstar's highly anticipated title has not been impacted by the recent strike. Since it is one of the biggest games scheduled to roll out in 2025, the union would have emphasized the strike's effect on it if the game was on the list.
4) Take-Two and Rockstar Games must have contingency plans
As stated earlier, GTA 6 is one of the biggest releases from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive scheduled to roll out in 2025. Hence, the video game publishing giants may presumably have various contingency plans to tackle such situations.
What makes this even more probable is that a similar strike occurred last year where numerous actors went on a strike halting various productions for quite some time. Naturally, studios must have since taken measures to deal with such circumstances if they pop up in the future. For example, they may have recorded and stocked up voice lines beforehand to avoid such situations which might lead to a GTA 6 delay.
5) Rockstar Games cannot afford to delay the game
Fans and the whole Grand Theft Auto community have been disappointed in Rockstar Games' relaxed behavior towards GTA 6 all these years. The studio's focus on GTA Online has already delayed the next installment in the series hence they cannot risk another potential delay under any circumstances.
Since they have already announced a release window of the game for 2025, backing down or delaying it will severely affect Grand Theft Auto 6 and lead to financial loss for the company. Since Take-Two wishes to capitalize on the release, they will do everything in their power to roll out the game on time. Hence, fans shouldn't be worried about a potential delay.
