5 reasons why GTA 6 shouldn't have multiple cities

While enticing, the idea of multiple cities in GTA 6 would be a bad one to implement. There are several reasons for this, such as the overall scale of the map, the detailing of the main city, and the possible effect on the plot. The usual pattern for a Grand Theft Auto game is that it comes with one city, although this hasn't always been the case.

The first GTA title had multiple cities, as did GTA: San Andreas. However, every other game from the series has focused on a single city instead. This helps with the theme of the game and also lets Rockstar work better on this one city. With that in mind, this article covers all the reasons why GTA 6 shouldn't have multiple cities.

Why GTA 6 shouldn't feature multiple cities

1) The focus should be on Vice City

Vice City seems to be a major focus of the upcoming game, as revealed by its official trailer. Fans are excited to return to Vice City after around 18 years, with Vice City Stories (2006) being the last game to feature this fictional interpretation of Miami. If Rockstar were to focus on different cities in the game, the result could be a less detailed rendition of Vice City.

So, to be able to offer the most impressive cityscape map ever seen before in the series, GTA 6 should focus on just one city. The community mapping project has so far revealed a massive and highly detailed Vice City, generating a lot of hype.

2) Will affect the scale

The last time Rockstar attempted to include multiple cities was in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, which had Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as the three major cities. However, the map size in that game is quite tiny when compared to Grand Theft Auto 5, and going by the GTA 6 leaks, the Leonida-based map in the next game is expected to be massive.

If Rockstar were to include multiple cities in the game, it could affect the overall scale of the map.

3) The themes wouldn't match

GTA 6 seems to be going all in with the theme of Vice City, which was first established in Grand Theft Auto Vice City back in 2002. Although it's not the '80s anymore, Rockstar's version of Miami still has some of its neon-lit streets, vibrant beaches, colorful alleys, and so on.

Each city in the Grand Theft Auto Universe has also come with its own theme, presented through the color tones, the music, the missions, and the overall ambiance. For instance, a warm color palette and palm trees are almost indicative of Vice City, and Rockstar Games seems to be using the same for their promotion.

However, if they include multiple cities, the others would quickly be overshadowed by Vice City's ambiance and may feel uninteresting.

4) The plot would be all over the place

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, as mentioned before, had three different cities, and the plot took you around all three. Although that game is quite fun in terms of gameplay and story, Rockstar can't return to the same goofy formula. There were moments in the San Andreas storyline that felt out of place and even over the top, which is an issue GTA 6 is unlikely to have.

Rockstar Games has been pursuing more realistic storylines since Grand Theft Auto 4, so the upcoming game is unlikely to have such a bizarre plot. As such, having multiple cities to incorporate into the story would feel forced and out of place.

5) There should be towns instead

Instead of introducing multiple cities, the focus should be on smaller towns. These would complement Vice City perfectly and also serve as interesting spots on the map to fall back to when the city gets repetitive.

The GTA 6 mapping project, based on information from the leaks, has revealed how Leonida may have some smaller towns around the map. The biggest of these might be bigger than Paleto Bay, but it's still not a full-scale city.
