Rockstar Games has been releasing GTA Online updates since 2013, with the most recent one released in June 2024. In the meantime, the GTA 6 release date is also approaching fast. There is no doubt that the gaming studio, along with a majority of the player base will shift to the new game once it releases. However, Rockstar should continue supporting the multiplayer game at least for a few more years.
This article lists five reasons why GTA Online updates should continue after the release of GTA 6.

Five reasons why Rockstar Games should release GTA Online updates after the GTA 6 release date
1) PC release is still unannounced
While the GTA 6 release period has been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rockstar Games has yet to make it official for PCs. Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC debuted nearly two years later from its first official release.
If the studio has the same plans for Grand Theft Auto 6, then it should continue supporting the current game with regular GTA Online updates.
2) The game still has many incomplete things to address
While there have been multiple content updates in Grand Theft Auto Online, the game still has many incomplete things to address. For example, the Mile High Club has been under construction for over 10 years, the Mount Chiliad mystery, and only one VIP Contract in the Agency business in GTA Online.
Rockstar Games should address these loose ends with GTA Online updates in the future. There is no doubt that GTA 6 will be more popular in the future. But, content updates related to the aforementioned things will also keep GTA Online alive.
3) Rockstar Games should not entirely depend on GTA 6 Online
After the massive success of Grand Theft Auto 5 Online, everyone is looking forward to the next iteration, unofficially named Grand Theft Auto 6 Online. However, Rockstar Games should not entirely depend on it for instant success.
Red Dead Online did not perform as well as Grand Theft Auto Online. Therefore, the studio should first test the waters with the next game before discontinuing GTA Online updates. If anything goes wrong, Grand Theft Auto Online will become a support for Rockstar.
4) A Michael DLC is still awaited
Even though Rockstar Games has shared no official words, Grand Theft Auto fans continue to ask for a Michale DLC in Grand Theft Auto Online. Many even thought the most recent GTA Online Summer 2024 Update would be a Michale DLC after the studio announced it as a “big” update. While Michael De Santa fans were left disappointed, Rockstar Games should bring him back in one of the future GTA Online updates.
The popular Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist still has the potential to revive Grand Theft Auto Online to its former glory. Therefore, the demand for a Michale DLC should not be abandoned even after GTA 6 release.
5) GTA Online is still one of the most profitable games
Grand Theft Auto Online plays a major role in selling the decade-old game. While the story mode can be completed in a month or two, the online multiplayer has years' worth of content. Therefore, the sales figures for both games are still growing.
While the Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay is expected to earn more after release, Rockstar Games should not abandon the current multiplayer game and continue to support it with GTA Online updates.
