The recently released Agents of Sabotage DLC update was also a success for the company. Even though many fans are looking forward to playing Grand Theft Auto 6 as soon as possible, there is no denying that the current multiplayer game will also run simultaneously.

5 solid reasons why GTA Online will receive updates in 2025

1) Expanded and Enhanced features are coming to the PC

Rockstar Games recently announced that the Expanded and Enhanced features of GTA 5 Online would be released in the PC version in 2025. Therefore, it is highly likely that the studio will continue to support the multiplayer game similar to as of now.

Adding the Expanded and Enhanced version to PC will unlock new scopes for Rockstar Games. Moreover, the studio will be able to expand the area of the GTA+ subscription. Therefore, we can expect Grand Theft Auto Online to get updates at least for a few more years.

2) Take-Two Interactive’s president already confirmed it

During one of the previous Earnings Call meetings in February 2023, Karl Slatoff (Take-Two Interactive’s current President) stated that Rockstar Games would continue to support GTA Online. The Agents of Sabotage DLC update was a part of it and we can expect more in the future as well.

There is no denying that the most recent updates are very small when compared to some other DLCs from the past. Nonetheless, players still get new cars, new missions, and various other gameplay elements every six months or so. Therefore, Grand Theft Auto Online fans can expect more in the future as well.

3) To promote GTA 6

Rockstar Games extensively uses Grand Theft Auto Online to promote its new projects, and we can expect the same before the GTA 6 release date as well. The upcoming game is Rockstar’s biggest project so far and GTA Online's huge player base is one of the best options to promote it organically.

For this purpose, the studio will have to release regular updates in the multiplayer game. Hence, we can be confident that Grand Theft Auto Online will get updates throughout the year 2025. It is only a matter of time before the studio starts promoting the upcoming title.

4) PC release of GTA 6 is still unsure

As of now, Rockstar Games has announced Grand Theft Auto 6 only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the PC fans are a little upset, they are hopeful that the studio will port the game soon. Since a significant amount of fans play GTA Online on PC and PlayStation 4, we can expect Rockstar to release new updates in the future.

While it is highly unlikely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on last-gen consoles, we can expect new things in GTA Online at least until the PC version release of the new title.

5) The game is still profitable for Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto Online still has one of the highest player counts when compared to other multiplayer games. As a result, Rockstar Games also earn high profits from the game. Considering the studio’s business strategies, it is highly unlikely that it will abandon the game in the middle.

Moreover, Rockstar discontinued the multiplayer version of Grand Theft Auto 4 many years after the launch of the current multiplayer game. Therefore, we can expect more updates at least until the launch of GTA Online 2.
