The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition on Netflix has become a huge success within just six months. Rockstar Games released the collection on the popular streaming service in December 2023. Even though its mainstream version has been available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles since November 2021, the mobile variant, especially the Netflix edition, has received more positive responses.

This article lists five reasons why GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition on Netflix is widely popular.

5 things that make GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition on Netflix widely popular

1) It is available for free

The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition on Netflix can be played for free. While Rockstar Games is notorious for charging higher rates even for decade-old games, the remastered trilogy is available for free on Netflix. However, you must have an active subscription to the streaming platform to access the games. Once your subscription is over, you’ll lose access to the titles.

Nonetheless, this is a great way to enjoy the games if you are a regular member of Netflix.

2) It comes with some new improvements

Not only is GTA Trilogy on Netflix free, but it also comes with new improvements that are currently exclusive to the mobile version only. Rockstar Games introduced a new visual change called ‘Classic Lighting Mode’ that makes significant improvements to the gameplay.

The mainstream version of Grand Theft Auto Trilogy is often criticized for making all three games look and feel the same. However, the Classic Lighting Mode brings back the OG atmospheres of the titles, allowing veteran players to relive past moments with high-definition visuals. The studio also fixed some minor bugs in the Netflix version.

3) You can play it on multiple devices

The GTA Trilogy Netflix Edition can be played on multiple devices. Keep in mind that the games do not have cloud synchronization that keeps the progress updates on each platform. Instead, you can download and install the collection on smartphones, tablets, and any other devices that support Netflix gaming.

This is a great advantage considering the main version is only playable on either PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.

Readers should also note that the games must support their desired portable platforms. Many Android smartphone users are still unable to download the titles due to unknown compatibility issues.

4) It includes three of the most iconic games

Netflix’s GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition includes the following three titles:

  • Grand Theft Auto: 3 - Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Definitive Edition

These are three iconic games that established and cemented the legacy of the Grand Theft Auto series.

As is customary, you get access to all three titles for free with a single Netflix subscription. This is undoubtedly a revolutionary sales strategy by both Rockstar Games and Netflix.

5) The game supports modern controls

The aforementioned Grand Theft Auto titles are over two decades old at this point and were designed with old controller layouts. However, the GTA Trilogy Netflix version includes modern controls that new age players are already familiar with.

Similar to the GTA Trilogy on PlayStation 5, you can connect a controller to your mobile device and play the games without touching the screen. This is one of the main reasons why the Netflix version of the titles is popular as it supports both touch screen and remote controls.
