Even before Rockstar released the official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, there were rumors that the game would cost $150 on launch. It has been in development for far longer than any other Rockstar Games title in history and is also expected to be their most ambitious title to date. All of this fueled speculation that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have an exorbitant price tag.
However, this is unlikely to be true, even if it turns out to be the most expensive Rockstar Games title yet. In this article, we've compiled a few reasons to argue why GTA 6 won't have a $150 price tag.

Why GTA 6 won't be priced $150 on launch
1) It's just a rumor
The biggest argument against the $150 price tag rumor is that it's just another rumor; not an official announcement or a confirmed leak. Although many have claimed that the price reveal is actually a leak, there's no source to prove so.
The GTA 6 leaks of 2022 revealed a lot of things, such as the protagonists, side characters, the map, the gameplay, and so much more. However, the price tag of the game is something that has not been 'leaked' from any credible source.
2) There might be different editions
Another thing to note about GTA 6 possibly having a $150 price tag is that the game is expected to have multiple editions on launch. This has been the case for most AAA launches in modern times, as well as some of Rockstar's very own games.
For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2, which launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018, was priced at $60 for the standard edition. However, there were a few separate versions, like the special edition, priced at $80, and the ultimate edition, priced at $100. The collector's box set, also priced at $100, didn't include the game itself but was a collection of different physical goodies. So, Grand Theft Auto 6 could also have different editions, with the base game unlikely to cost more than $70.
3) Game prices aren't expected to increase that much
The standard price for most AAA games nowadays seems to have been raised to $70. This is still a relatively new change after the base price being $60 for quite a few years. As mentioned before, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018 with a $60 price tag, and even after five years, the pricing has been raised by just $10.
GTA 6 is slated to launch in Fall 2025, which is just over a year from now. Video game prices aren't expected to skyrocket to $150 in such a short time, which makes the rumor about Grand Theft Auto 6 having such a high price tag seem ridiculous.
4) There will be discounts
Even if GTA 6 has a high price tag, there will undoubtedly be discounts, although this might not be applicable for those who want to play the game on launch day. Besides, many AAA games are nowadays offered as part of a subscription service on launch day. Whether it's PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, or even Rockstar's GTA+, the upcoming game might show up on these services.
Grand Theft Auto Plus has a high chance of offering GTA 6, either on the launch day itself or later. This is because Rockstar has been adding more and more games to the subscription catalog.
5) Rockstar has never had unreasonable launch day prices
No Rockstar Games title has cost more than $60 on its launch day before. As mentioned before, the company is likely to follow the current standard rate of $70. Even if they decided to raise the price, it shouldn't be more than $80. $150 is an outlandish price tag, even for GTA 6, which can easily be called the most anticipated video game in history.
Although the special editions always cost more, they still haven't come anywhere near such a ridiculous price tag.
