GTA San Andreas and GTA 5 both are two of the most ambitious games from their respective universes. While the latter is said to be the advanced version of the former, San Andreas also has unique things that you cannot do in Grand Theft Auto 5. Nonetheless, both titles are supplemental to each other and are equally loved by fans.

This article lists five unique things that Rockstar Games allows you to do in GTA San Andreas but are not available in GTA 5.

Note: This article is subjective and only reflects the writer’s opinions. The listings are not in any order.

Five notable things players can do in GTA San Andreas but not in GTA 5

1) Change body types

Rockstar allows you to change Carl “CJ” Johnson’s body type. It is one of the little details in GTA San Andreas that fans still praise. You can make him lean, muscular, or fat. Various activities in the game impact CJ’s health. You can eat a lot to make him fat, go to the gym, or run extensively to make him slimmer.

If the protagonist starts lifting heavy weights, he will gradually gain muscles. Rockstar did not include this feature in GTA 5. All three protagonists have the same physique from start to end. Although Franklin can be seen working out sometimes, it does not affect his health.

2) Gang wars

Gang wars in GTA San Andreas is one of the best gameplays in the entire Grand Theft Auto series. CJ can expand the influence of his neighborhood gang by fighting with other hoods. Rockstar Games also made expanding gang territories mandatory for the story to progress. It was truly an ‘ahead of its time’ feature in GTA San Andreas.

On the other hand, there are no gang wars in GTA 5. While there are several gang-dominated areas on the map, none of the protagonists have their turf. You can start a fight with any of the gangs in GTA 5, but the chaos will disappear once you move away from the location.

3) Dating

CJ is popular among ladies and he can date various girlfriends including Catalina, one of the most hated characters in GTA San Andreas. He can take his girlfriends to various places, dine with them, and also visit their houses. Rockstar Games even planned to include a minigame named Hot Coffee, which was later removed from the vanilla version.

Unfortunately, none of the GTA 5 characters can go on dates. Although Michael can take Amanda out sometimes, it is not considered a date. The protagonists can only hang out with other characters.

4) Freely roam in other cities

Even though the GTA 5 map is bigger than the world of GTA San Andreas, the latter allows you to freely roam in three different cities and many other smaller towns. After a certain point in the story, Carl “CJ” Johnson can freely travel between Los Santos, Las Venturas, and San Fierro. You can even visit a part of Liberty City in GTA San Andreas.

However, in GTA 5 you have to be on the island state of San Andreas. While the story sometimes takes you to North Yankton, it is not accessible in freeroam.

5) Learn new fighting skills

GTA San Andreas allows you to improve CJ’s fighting skills over time. He can master several weapons that give him new abilities. Mastering the SMG allows him to hold two guns simultaneously. Additionally, he can also learn various melee combat skills in fight clubs.

The skill improvement system is also available in GTA 5, but it does not add new features to the combat mechanism. While Rockstar included various interesting details in Grand Theft Auto 5, it seemingly forgot to add new fighting skills.
