The excitement around the long-awaited GTA 6 skyrocketed when its first trailer debuted on December 5, 2023. However, much about the game was revealed in 2022 due to around 90 video clips of development footage getting leaked online.
While in-development content can be changed prior to launch, many things seen in the leaks were confirmed by the first trailer. Hence, more leaked content might be confirmed in the future.
So, here are five things that might be different in Grand Theft Auto 6 based on leaks. That said, readers should note that anything seen in the leaked development clips is subject to change.
Car theft mechanic and 4 other things that might be different in GTA 6 based on leaks
1) Hair growth system
The September 2022 GTA 6 leaks prominently featured two characters, one of which was confirmed in the debut trailer as its female protagonist, Lucia. The other is a male, reportedly its second protagonist, Jason, whose character model's hair varied across the leaked development clips.
This information suggests there might be a natural hair growth system, which hasn't been a part of any game in the series yet. Variations in Jason's hair could also result from changes to his character model over time. But as Rockstar has previously implemented this feature in Red Dead Redemption 2, bringing it to Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn't seem too far-fetched.
2) More enterable buildings
A portion of debug code spotted in Grand Theft Auto 6's leaked videos suggests that there might be 157 interiors in the upcoming game. The lack of enterable buildings has been a major drawback of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5. While its map is big, not having many accessible interiors affects immersion.
Fans have long demanded a change in this area, and it looks like their wish might be granted in its sequel. That said, the number of interiors can still change before the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
3) Car theft mechanic
Stealing cars is one of the most basic mechanics in old GTA titles. Until now, players have been able to hijack any vehicle with just the press of a button. However, it seems that Rockstar might be reinventing the wheel to some extent.
Failing to steal a ride could be a possibility in the next game, as hinted in the leaked clips. This may not apply to all cars but would still be interesting to see, quite like the rumored car refueling system in GTA 6.
4) New equipment
Last year's leaked videos suggest the inclusion of tools such as slim jims, plyers, tracker jammers, and even an immobilizer bypass in GTA 6. Some of them, like the slim jims and the immobilizer bypass, may assist in car theft, which would significantly differ from other entries in the series.
A Speargun may also be present in the upcoming game, adding to the new equipment. It wasn't seen in the first trailer but might make an appearance in GTA 6 trailer 2, which is expected to be released at some point in 2024.
5) Police behavior
The police play a crucial role in Grand Theft Auto games. Based on the leaks, it seems that the cops in GTA 6 might be more tactical when dealing with criminals. This would be a stark difference from Grand Theft Auto 5, whose police officers are highly aggressive and trigger-happy.
Additionally, the inclusion of a police dispatch timer in one of the leaked videos shows that players may get time to flee from the crime scene instead of cops magically spawning in the vicinity. Confirmation of these changes in police behavior and other exciting GTA 6 news could arrive later this year.
