Rockstar Games has written some brilliant GTA characters so far and fans hope that it continues doing so in the series' next entry. However, it cannot be denied that some individuals have failed to leave a lasting impact in their respective game's plot and even in the minds of fans. While this didn't really harm these titles' stories much, these characters being a cut above might have made them even better.
In this article, we will be taking a look at a ranked list of five weakest written GTA characters of all time.
Note: This article is subjective and only reflects the writer's opinions. It also contains some major spoilers.
Devin Weston and 4 more of the weakest written GTA characters of all time, ranked
5) Vlad Glebov - Grand Theft Auto 4
Vlad Glebov worked for the Russian mafia in Liberty City, and was pretty high up in the hierarchy. He meets the game's protagonist, Niko Bellic, via the latter's cousin, Roman Bellic, who owes him. Since Roman is unable to pay his debt, Vlad starts having Niko work for him as a trade-off.
However, he soon gets killed by the protagonist, bringing his short stint to an end. He is, unfortunately, a very forgettable character and his death at the hands of Niko, basically a nobody at the time, would have felt like a bigger deal if he made a significant impact on the story.
4) Steve Haines - Grand Theft Auto 5
Steve Haines is a corrupt FIB agent and the cause for a lot of GTA 5 protagonists' troubles. He is one of the game's major antagonists, but feels like an annoyance at best. In a nutshell, he pales in comparison to most of the other antagonists in the GTA series.
It is also possible that his actions got overshadowed by dynamics of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, who are some of the best GTA characters ever. But Steve Haines' inability to feel like a genuine threat makes him one of the weakest written GTA characters of all time.
3) Devin Weston - Grand Theft Auto 5
Devin Weston is another GTA 5 story mode antagonist and he also suffers from similar issues as Steve Haines. He only manages to come off as a minor inconvenience, which is even more problematic considering that he is arguably the main villain of the story.
Devin Weston is written as a typical rich bad guy who loves to flaunt his wealth and uses others for his benefit. Sadly, these characteristics fail to impress in a series that has featured so many memorable and stand-out individuals.
2) Claude - Grand Theft Auto 3
Claude is Grand Theft Auto 3's lead character. This title revolutionized the gaming industry and paved the path for what this video game series is today. That being said, Claude lacks any remarkable characteristics that make him not only one of the worst GTA protagonists, but also one of the weakest written GTA characters.
The biggest contributor to his shortcomings is his inability to speak. The absence of any dialogues and emotions really hold back the protagonist and he fails to stand anywhere near his peers.
1) Kate McReary - Grand Theft Auto 4
Kate McReary is Niko Bellic's love interest, but their relationship isn't given much time to breathe. Sure, players can go out on dates, but that is an optional activity. Those who skip that might barely feel anything upon Kate's death at Roman's wedding.
Additionally, there isn't anything really interesting about her, which is unfortunate considering the impact her character is supposed to have. This is why she tops this list of the weakest written GTA characters of all time.
Since GTA 6's Lucia also seems to be in a relationship with the alleged second protagonist, Jason, Rockstar will have to do a much better job than what it did with Niko and Kate.
