Halloween celebrations are in full swing in Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5's online mode, but the story mode continues to be ignored by Rockstar Games. While the former has new events and collectibles, the latter is just as it was 10 years ago. Nevertheless, mods can help in bringing horror elements to the game, allowing players to experience the spooky season even in the story mode.

These mods have been crafted by some of the most talented members of this title's community. The best thing about these GTA 5 mods is that they can be downloaded for free. So, let's take a look at the five best horror mods for GTA 5 in 2023.

Note: Readers must use these mods at their own discretion.

The House of the Damned and 4 other best horror mods for GTA 5 in 2023

1) The Brazilian Myths

The Brazilian Myths mod is a collection of some of Brazil's most well-known myths and legends. It adds these elements to GTA 5's story mode, allowing players to experience them in a unique way. The Clown Van, Cemetery Ghost Lady, Man with the Sack, Headless Mule, Killer Doll, and many others are a part of this mod.

They spawn at different locations in the game's map and add a lot of freshness to the story mode's exploration aspect. Despite debuting in 2017, The Brazilian Myths mod, created by HermanDude, is still one of the best horror mods for GTA 5.

2) Left4Santos

The Left4Santos mod makes Grand Theft Auto 5 a zombie survival game. It turns NPCs into zombies that attack players in free roam. What makes Left4Santos different from other zombie mods is that it actually makes NPCs look like zombies by adding bruises and blood stains to their character models.

In fact, they even stagger like most zombies do in films and TV shows, which is a neat detail put in by the creator, Rugz007. The zombies can be taken out using standard weapons but absorb a lot of damage. This can be quite challenging if there is more than one zombie around.

3) The House of the Damned

The House of the Damned is an incredibly creative horror mod. It turns the O'Neil farmhouse into a haunted house that players can explore. Deceased NPCs and bloodstains can be found inside as well as outside the building, adding to its ominous vibe.

However, the main attractions of this mod are The Bakers, Resident Evil 7 antagonists, who attack players while they explore The House of the Damned. This mod created by HermanDude requires a few other mods, such as Menyoo and MAESTRE's Jack Baker (RE 7) mod, to work properly.

4) Resident Evil FIB

Also created by HermanDude, the Resident Evil FIB mod works quite like the Left4Santos. That said, instead of zombies populating the entire map, they only spawn inside the FIB headquarters. Players can go inside to explore the building, which is in a dilapidated state, and fight off the resident zombies.

They move very slowly, so taking them out shouldn't be much of a challenge. For this GTA 5 mod to work as intended, players will also have to download and install Menyoo as well as NewTheft's Open All Interiors mod.

5) The Haunted Church of Great Chapparal

The Haunted Church of Great Chapparal mod, created by TimelordQ, spawns ghost apparitions in the Great Chapparal Church cemetery. While they don't do anything, the mod, at the very least, adds something new to the map.

Players can spawn these ghosts at will by pressing 0 on the keyboard. The same button can be used to turn off the mod as well. Interestingly, these ghosts look quite like the ones in GTA Online's Ghosts Exposed event. Completing this event rewards a livery for the new car based on the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters.
