It is no secret that Rockstar Games will stop supporting GTA 5 at some point after GTA 6 releases. The title's multiplayer mode has just received another big update, Bottom Dollar Bounties. But the magnitude of these updates (in terms of the number of things introduced) has been on a steady decline, suggesting that Rockstar might have shifted most resources toward the sequel.

As a result, the end of GTA 5 might finally be on the horizon after all these years, which shouldn't be surprising. Let's explore the possibility of Rockstar Games' 2013 hit and the best-selling entry in the series so far, Grand Theft Auto 5, coming to an end soon.

When could GTA 5 finally come to an end?

Grand Theft Auto 5 has been a massive success for Rockstar Games, a lot of which has to do with its multiplayer - Grand Theft Auto Online. The developer has constantly released updates for the latter in the last decade, but it seems like a final update could be close.

The latest major update, Bottom Dollar Bounties, has notably introduced only a handful of content. In fact, players can through all of it within a few days. Although there is still some unreleased content in the update's drip feed, that too isn't anything extraordinary.

Some were wondering at one point if this could be the final GTA 5 update, but that doesn't seem like the case anymore, given its scale. Grand Theft Auto 6's release window is also set for Fall 2025, leaving room for at least two more big updates - one likely in winter 2024 and another in summer 2025.

However, the title will be around 12 years old once its sequel releases, and diverting any attention or resources to it over a brand-new installment doesn't make much sense.

Weekly updates or occasional events could continue, but major updates dropping even after Grand Theft Auto 6 releases seems very unlikely.

In short, GTA 5 might end after a potential summer 2025 update for its multiplayer mode, which really wouldn't be too far away. Fans have also wanted to see Michael De Santa (Grand Theft Auto 5's story mode protagonist) appear in an online DLC for a long time. So, it would be great if he could appear in the final GTA 5 update and bring the game to an end.
