The GTA 5 Online BattleEye Anti-Cheat integration went live earlier today (September 17, 2024), drawing a lot of attention from the community. Rockstar Games’ popular multiplayer title has been on PC for the past nine years, but a proper anti-cheat feature was never officially supported by the developers until now.

The new GTA Online Anti-Cheat feature is not compatible with the multiplayer title on Steam Deck. As per Rockstar, only the story mode will be accessible on the platform post-update.

GTA Online’s Anti-Cheat software, BattleEye, is not perfect by any means, it has its fair share of issues with Rockstar mentioning that it won't work properly with the following graphics modification software:

Keep in mind you will still be able to launch the game but these mods will be disabled.

The following antivirus programs are also not compatible with BattlEye and the Anti-Cheat software might not function properly:

  • Trend Micro
  • AVG

These programs may prevent players from launching the game or working correctly due to the security measures included in the BattlEye Anti-Cheat software. Hence, if you have these installed on your PC, it’s recommended to disable them before launching the game.


It has been said that BattlEye will support a global ban system that stops cheaters or hackers from switching accounts if they get banned on one. Moreover, PC gamers can expect Rockstar Games to fix all known issues as quickly as possible.
