One can find many GTA 6-related rumors on social media. While most are regarding the sequel's story or gameplay features, there's been word of cryptocurrency possibly being included. The most recent report (as of this writing) suggests that players could be paid (in-game) with cryptocurrency for completing missions in the upcoming Rockstar Games title.
The idea sounds interesting, but it isn't backed by any reliable sources. Additionally, Rockstar Games hasn't stated anything about including cryptocurrency in Grand Theft Auto 6 yet. Nevertheless, let's take a closer look.
Note: This article is based on leaks, rumors, and speculation. Readers are advised to take the information herein with a grain of salt and await official confirmation.
Will GTA 6 include cryptocurrency as a form of in-game payment?
As per a post by Watcher.Guru on July 3, 2024, Rockstar Games could integrate cryptocurrency as an in-game payment method in GTA 6 story mode. Apparently, anonymous billionaire gangsters could provide missions in the upcoming game and transfer payment for these tasks through cryptocurrency.
The same report also mentions that according to various GTA 6 pages on social media, the cryptocurrency payment mechanism is rumored to be named $RSTAR, which is quite clearly an acronym of Rockstar Games, its developer.
However, no source for this rumor has been mentioned in the report, which leaves its authenticity up in the air. So, is there any possibility of such a payment mechanism (in-game) being a part of the next Grand Theft Auto installment?
Although there is no way to confirm whether cryptocurrency will be a part of the GTA sequel, having it featured shouldn't be too surprising. Rockstar has parodied many trends and events in the Grand Theft Auto series over the years and could do the same in the next one.
Cryptocurrency has been somewhat of a hot topic in recent years, which is why we might get to see it being parodied, just as various real-life social media clips were in the first GTA 6 trailer. Additionally, as this is rumored to be just a form of in-game payment, it could easily work as a gimmick.
That being said, there's no way to authenticate this new cryptocurrency rumor, as already mentioned, and neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have said anything about integrating cryptocurrency in Grand Theft Auto 6 yet.
In a nutshell, we will have to wait for official announcements to see if that will be the case. More information on the sequel, such as official screenshots and GTA 6 trailer 2 are expected to arrive later this year.
