Lucia's revelation as GTA 6's protagonist made a section of Grand Theft Auto fans worried about the title possibly being "woke", that is focusing on political correctness and social commentary. Although there has been no clear evidence of this so far, some are still skeptical. YouTuber @LegacyKillaHD on X recently responded to a comment that suggested there might be pride flags in GTA 6, in quite an interesting manner.
They uploaded an image showing a pride flag in Rockstar Games' 2004 release — GTA San Andreas. Here's what the YouTuber tweeted:
"GTA 6 WILL BE WOKE BECAUSE THERE WILL BE PRIDE FLAGS..." uhhh ya know GTA San Andreas had pride flags? lol
Some fans even pointed to one of Grand Theft Auto 4's two-story mode DLCs, The Ballad of Gay Tony.
A few others argued that the inclusion of pride flags (which isn't confirmed yet) would be normal since they are present in the real world.
In a separate post on the same platform, GTA Online data miner @Lucas7yoshi_RS responded to such allegations by uploading a clip of GTA 4 story mission Hating the Haters.
Very little is known about Grand Theft Auto 6, as of this writing, since Rockstar Games has only released a single trailer so far. However, since it is scheduled to be released during Fall 2025, we can expect more to be showcased in the near future.
Grand Theft Auto fans respond to allegations of GTA 6 likely being woke by pointing to older games in the series
While some fans are worried about Grand Theft Auto 6 possibly having things like pride flags, others have responded by showing that the series' previous (and beloved) installments have also featured such elements.
The concern around GTA 6, particularly its story, also arises from Rockstar originals such as Dan Houser, Leslie Benzies, and Lazlow Jones, leaving the company in the last few years.
That being said, it should be noted that Michael Unsworth, former Vice President of Writing at Rockstar Games, has mentioned Grand Theft Auto 6 among his projects in his LinkedIn profile.
As can be seen in the image above, Mike has also worked on titles like Grand Theft Auto 4, and Grand Theft Auto 5, as well as both Red Dead Redemption games. This should bring some relief to those concerned about the originals leaving.
