Some players may wonder how to use steering wheel on GTA 5's PS5 version. This gamepad is a popular device among vehicle enthusiasts who like to have a realistic in-game driving experience. However, fans should note that the steering wheel isn't natively compatible with the PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto 5. While there is no official explanation for it, the main reason could be the lack of demand in general terms.
Nonetheless, hardcore vehicle enthusiasts have found a workaround to use the steering wheel on GTA 5 PS5 version.

Easy solution to use the steering wheel on GTA 5 PS5 version
According to a video posted by YouTuber Griffomedia (YouTube/@Griffomedia) on September 20, 2024, the steering wheel doesn't offer all movement functionalities in GTA 5. When you control one of the three protagonists, the steering wheel only moves the camera or POV of the character. Neither the pedals nor the buttons allow you to freely move your character.
However, you can use the regular controller simultaneously with the steering wheel. This is quite similar to using the keyboard+mouse and controller combo on a PC. According to the YouTuber, you can use the PlayStation controller to walk and run and use the steering wheel to drive vehicles.
Since the main purpose of the gaming steering wheel is to drive cars, this workaround method should come in handy.
Connect the steering wheel as well as the gaming controller to your console. Use the latter to find a vehicle to drive. As soon as you enter a vehicle and take control, use the steering wheel and pedals to move in all directions.

Keep in mind that since the steering wheel is not natively supported in GTA 5, the vehicle movements may feel choppy. However, as of now, it is the only workaround to use the feature. We can only hope to get direct steering wheel support in the Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay.
Steering wheels are typically designed for car-centric games where driving and racing are the main goals. Developers of such games also make the feature support natively. However, Rockstar Games’ GTA 5 is not exactly a car-centric title; the open world includes various activities that make it a crime simulator.
This could be one of the reasons the popular game on PS5 cannot be played directly with a steering wheel. The PC version of GTA 5 also doesn't support the feature. However, you can use mods to make the experience more enjoyable.
