One of the developers at Rockstar Games recently reported that they have been harassed online by some GTA 6 fans. On December 22, 2024, one of the illustrators of the gaming studio, who is known as nicky on the social media platform (X/@s1nick), expressed their dissatisfaction with the fan queries.

“Can people stop DM-ing me about GTA 6? I only work there. I literally do not have any information.”

The developer also shared another tweet where someone was seen threatening them to release the next trailer.

While the community is eagerly waiting for the GTA 6 trailer 2, some have crossed boundaries by bothering the developers. Many Grand Theft Auto fans, including Ben (X/@videotechuk_), called out on the matter and asked others not to harass the developers.

“They have no affiliation to marketing the games, they’re just devs cooking the game. I heard awful things from many different people across the community, just leave them alone,” said Ben (@videotechuk_)

Another user named The budgie (X/@TheBudgiteer) reminded the community that not all developers are associated with the incoming game:

“Guys, you do realize that Rockstar also still updates Grand theft auto online. Not all employees are working on Grand Theft Auto 6 ya know.”

The scene started after Rockstar sent GTA 6-themed merch to their developers and some employees shared the images online. Many fans were convinced that the items included hidden hints about the upcoming game. As a result, the ‘December 27 theory’ started to brew within the community.

Popular Grand Theft Auto YouTuber TGG (X/@TGGonYT) also criticized fans' behavior, and stated the following:

“Guys, you realize this is just a video game, right? DO NOT take action in REAL LIFE over a VIDEO GAME theory. Jesus.”

Many others also shared their displeasure over the matter and urged fans not to harass Rockstar developers for a new GTA 6 trailer.

One user named Sirnickles#BFG 4 Life (X/@bhand94) felt sympathetic towards the developers given the toll they have to bear:

“Being a Rockstar employee has to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. Keeping GTA 6 in total secret and harassed by impatient fans.”

Knowing the GTA 6 release date is reportedly important for other developers as well

While the Grand Theft Auto 6 fans are already getting impatient for new official details, a recent report from Bloomberg stated that many other game publishers were also eager to know the extract release date.

Popular gaming journalist Jason Schreier reported the following in his article:

“Anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall.”

In short, the release date will directly impact how the competition will perform. Given the hype and anticipation surrounding GTA 6 even before its release, any games released alongside it will be heavily impacted. So to avoid this misfortune, developers don’t want their games to get released close to the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date.
