GTA San Andreas VR hasn't been talked about for ages, ever since being announced a few years back. As such, many have been wondering if it's been canceled or not. Rockstar hasn't spoken out about it, and neither has Meta, the social media giant who also owns the Oculus Quest range of VR consoles. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is a 2004 game that has been ported over to countless platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, iOS, and more.

Note that there hasn't been any news about the GTA San Andreas VR port in a while. So, there's no way to prove if the game has been canceled or not. Here are some details on the situation that all Grand Theft Auto fans need to know.

Note: This article is speculative, as there haven't been any official updates on the status of the game.

Where's GTA San Andreas VR?

Neither Meta nor Rockstar has clarified whether GTA San Andreas VR has been canceled or not, and fans are getting anxious.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced GTA San Andreas VR in October 2021, back when the iconic Grand Theft Auto title celebrated its 17th anniversary. Here's what he stated:

"I'm excited to announce that the Rockstar Games classic, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2. This new version of what I think is one of the greatest games ever made, will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open world in virtual reality."

However, it's been over two years since and there seems to be no new information about the game. The most recent update is from the above X post in February 2024, where a user reached out to Meta in the comments section of a YouTube video about the game. A representative responded from the channel's official account, saying that the game hasn't been canceled.

However, @Ridge_XR, the X user who shared the screenshot, stated the next day that the comment had vanished. Many fans expressed skepticism over the response, with Nima Zeighami, the director of products at Leia Inc., saying:

"It is definitely canceled, and has been for some time. This is just a customer service rep who doesn’t know anything beyond what their internal script says. I’m glad everyone got a hit of copium, but it’s just not happening."

It should be known that the GTA San Andreas VR port is being made by Video Games Deluxe, the company behind the VR port for L.A. Noire. It also developed the Netflix versions of the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition Trilogy, which have been a bit more successful compared to the notorious original release.

So, fans might have to wait a bit longer to see if Rockstar or Meta announces anything new about the game, even if it's a cancelation announcement. October 2024 is a likely window for an announcement since it marks the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
