GTA Online will be a decade-old game on last-gen consoles, PS4, and Xbox One, this November. The developer Rockstar Games is still supporting these platforms regularly with new DLCs and weekly updates due to a large number of players playing the game there. However, it seems that the performance on these platforms has made the experience unplayable for many.
On July 12, 2024, Reddit user RideAffectionate518 shared in-game footage of GTA Online being played on a last-gen console. The short clip shows the game suffering from poor performance, including lag issues.
Their post has gained over 4000 up-votes at the time of writing, showing that many GTA Online players at least somewhat agree with their statement. One user, Longjumping_Drag2752, shared that they had a similar experience with all lobbies on their Xbox One. Here’s what they commented:
“Mine is the same. Public lobbies with 25 people it lags like crazy on my XB1. Private lobbies with say 7 of my friends it works great.”
Another player, u/WranglerConsistent, shared their experience with the PS4 version of the game. They joked about the poor fps they seemingly get on the platform, saying:
“on ps4 you can count the fps”
Here are some of the other noteworthy reactions by fans on RideAffectionate518’s post, sharing their experiences with the game on last-gen:
While Rockstar Games always tries its best to solve performance-related issues regularly, the performance of GTA Online on last-gen consoles has become noticeably poorer compared to some years ago. Despite this, the developers still release new content for the game every year, most recently with the Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC.
