GTA 6 fans were expecting some screenshots from the upcoming game on Christmas Eve 2024, but Rockstar Games has apparently broken a long-standing tradition. Previously, the studio had released screenshots for the then-unreleased Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5 during Christmas Eve of 2007 and 2012, respectively.
Naturally, fans were expecting the same this year. However, Rockstar Games remained silent for the most part, except for releasing a new update for Red Dead Online on the evening of December 24, 2024.
Fans react to Rockstar Games not releasing any GTA 6 screenshots
Rockstar Games released four Grand Theft Auto 4 screenshots on December 24, 2007, and five Grand Theft Auto 5 screenshots on December 24, 2012. Do note that the said games were officially released the following year. Since the GTA 6 release is scheduled for fall 2025, fans highly anticipated new screenshots on Christmas Eve 2024.
However, the lack of it caused some to share their reactions online. Souri (X/@JustSouri) made his frustration quite evident through an X post, claiming Rockstar Games president Sam Houser was delaying the GTA 6 Trailer 2 intentionally as a form of "interactive storytelling."
“Sam Houser probably thinks delaying the GTA 6 Trailer 2 is just another form of 'interactive storytelling' where we all get to experience the thrill of waiting.”
Another user, Eric (X/@EricFC100), stated that the lack of screenshots could delay the game’s release.
However, user Bloodline4ever (X/@ShadyMo34239931) believed that new details related to Grand Theft Auto 6 would arrive when no one would expect it.
Stating the currently viral “Number 27 Theory’, one user named PurpleDaLit (X/@PurpleBenson_2) commented:
“IN DECEMBER 27TH 2024 WE TRUST”
It is worth noting that Rockstar apparently teased the number 27 theory on December 24, 2024. The studio removed one post from its Instagram account and added another to keep the number of posts the same (27).
As a result, fans are now looking forward to December 27, 2024, hoping for the GTA 6 trailer 2.
However, with the Christmas Eve screenshot theory falling flat, user QueenOfVC (X/@CursedX2000) insisted that fans shouldn't assume Rockstar's next move based on what they have done in the past, saying:
“And this is exactly the reason why we shouldn’t assume their every move based on decisions they’ve made in the past.”
It will be interesting to see how Rockstar Games proceeds with the GTA 6 trailer 2 moving forward.
