Some GTA Online players in China reportedly had their accounts banned between December 2023 and January 2024. Those affected by this ban wave claim that they didn't engage in any activity that would subject them to this punishment and are apparently referring to it as a "fake ban." Many of them contacted Rockstar Games about the issue but seemingly didn't get a satisfactory answer. However, they seemingly found out that their accounts had been banned in the "Egregious Spammer Accounts" category.
Interestingly, many of the affected players were reportedly able to claim the free Obey 8F Drafter on Rockstar Games' official website earlier this year in March 2024. One allegedly even shared a screenshot claiming that their Grand Theft Auto Online character was still available in the title's Director Mode.

Reputed Rockstar Games insider and data miner Tez2 tweeted a link to a report on this incident. According to this report, many of the affected Chinese players had played in Public sessions before getting banned. They allegedly didn't get any emails about their accounts being banned and were permanently removed from Grand Theft Auto Online without a prior 30-day-long suspension.
The report states that these players initially believed they had been targeted by cheaters using third-party software for login interceptions. However, a conversation with Rockstar's customer support apparently showed they had been banned in the "Egregious Spammer Accounts" category.
Oddly enough, their GTA Online characters have reportedly not been reset despite the account ban, and their account data/information is allegedly still available on Rockstar's website. The report mentioned above suggests that the account data shows these players played the game as intended, and even attached a gameplay video shared by an affected player to support the claim.
All of this is pretty unusual compared to how regular GTA Online account bans pan out. That being said, these Chinese players are seemingly still banned as of this writing.
