Rockstar Games often releases background GTA Online updates quietly. These patches aim to address various bugs or glitches in the popular multiplayer title. On January 9, 2025, well-known insider Tez2 reported that a new background update had recently been rolled out, fixing several issues in the game, including a bug related to a new Agents of Sabotage vehicle.

Read on to learn about the patch notes of the reported background GTA Online update.

Reported background GTA Online update (January 9, 2025): Patrol bug, Terrorbyte glitch, and more

As seen above, Tez2 shared the reported background GTA Online update and its patch notes on X. According to them, the update made the following changes:

  • Fixed the tattoo overlapping issue that used to occur upon switching characters
  • Fixed an issue with Canis Terminus Patrol roof options that used to cause its windows to fall off, continuously accumulating on the ground.
  • Patched a Benefactor Terrorbyte glitch that allowed its Collectible Scanner to be used in the single-player (story mode).

In response to a fan's comment, Tez2 elaborated on the Terrorbyte glitch, explaining how it used to work. They described it more as a bug and provided the following details:

“The way it works out is that if you highlight a collectible with the Terrorbyte scanner, yet you experience an internet disconnection, then you’ll go back to single-player with the sonar sweeper on the mini-map, but it only works for online.”

Replying to another comment, Tez2 posted a clip demonstrating the Terminus Patrol bug, illustrating how it negatively impacted the gameplay experience:

It's worth noting that this reported background GTA Online update emerged ahead of the game's next weekly event. Since Rockstar hasn't released any new Agents of Sabotage drip-feed vehicles in 2025 so far, players can anticipate the arrival of a new one, like the Vapid Firebolt ASP, soon.

Additionally, players can look forward to a new set of weekly bonuses, likely centered around The FIB Files. As usual, the new weekly event will offer discounts on selected cars and vehicles.

Lastly, a new podium vehicle and prize ride will be introduced as part of the upcoming weekly update.

Fans can expect Rockstar to release the event at 2:00 am PT on January 9, 2025.
