The GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition mod, being developed a group called Revolution Team, is nearing completion. This fan project aims to bring Rockstar Games' beloved 2002 title to GTA 4's RAGE engine. Revolution Team have provided an update related to the mod's development status on their YouTube channel's Community section, revealing that story missions and game design are 72% and 92% complete, respectively.
Additionally, development on cutscenes and radio is 100% complete. Work on this highly ambitious GTA Vice City mod is in "full swing," as stated by creators, and it is set to release later this year. Those interested can view a trailer as well as some gameplay demos on Revolution Team's official YouTube channel.
Creators of the GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition mod notify fans about development progress
This GTA Vice City mod's release window has been set for the second half of 2024. However, its creators, Revolution Team, have mentioned in their latest YouTube Community post that the remaining parts of development are the most time-consuming and require lots of testing.
Nevertheless, work on some notable areas like map, weapons, characters, pedestrians, and radio are complete. All pre-recorded cutscenes have also been replaced with in-game versions.
Furthermore, work on vehicles is finished, as can be noted from the image above. Based on the videos uploaded by Revolution Team so far, the driving physics and handling of cars, bikes, and even movement of characters seem akin to that of GTA 4. This is expected as this mod is porting GTA Vice City over to GTA 4's RAGE engine.

Once the mod releases, it will be available absolutely free of cost. It has all the potential to act as an enjoyable revisit to Vice City before GTA 6 releases in Fall 2025, introducing fans to a brand new iteration of the iconic Miami-based location.
As of this writing, Rockstar Games have only uploaded one trailer of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title, that, interestingly, featured many GTA Online cars.
