Grand Theft Auto 5 (or simply GTA 5) is Rockstar Games' most successful title so far, and is continuing to sell well even after 11 years since its original launch. The developer's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, just revealed at its latest earnings call (held on November 6, 2024) that the title has now sold over a whopping 205 million copies to date. This is a considerable increase from the figure reported at Take-Two's last earnings call (held in August 2024), which was over 200 million copies.
While the title's story mode and characters such as Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton are incredibly popular within the fanbase, its multiplayer mode, GTA Online, has played a major role in keeping it relevant over the past decade. In fact, Rockstar recently announced a GTA Online Winter DLC for this December.
GTA 5 continues to sell well, crosses 205 million units sold — confirms Take-Two Interactive
Take-Two Interactive's Q2 2025 earnings call revealed that GTA 5 has sold over 205 million units to date. The title was originally launched in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, was later ported over to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and is even available today on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as an enhanced version for these current-gen consoles.
It should be noted that this title is the best-selling game in the Grand Theft Auto franchise by quite a margin. The franchise itself has sold over 435 million units to date, as also revealed during the latest Take-Two Interactive earnings call. That said, fans are now eagerly looking forward to the next entry, Grand Theft Auto 6, which will be released during Fall 2025.
Rockstar Games has only released one trailer for GTA 6 so far but is expected to reveal more as we approach the sequel's release window. Until then, there is always GTA 5 and Online (or even other Grand Theft Auto titles) to keep fans thoroughly entertained, especially with a new DLC arriving to the multiplayer in the very near future.
