A GTA 6 delay rumor has been surfacing online for the past few days that the game could be released in 2026 instead of fall 2025, as originally announced. While this has led to speculation since the company hasn't made an announcement about the upcoming title in months, there’s some good news, at least for now.
According to a post by popular reporter Jason Schreier on X on September 9, 2024, six Rockstar Games employees haven’t heard anything about Grand Theft Auto 6 being delayed at the moment.
However, they suggested that a GTA 6 delay to 2026 is possible due to the game being ambitiously big.
GTA 6 2026 delay rumor was “nonsense,” says Jason Schreier
As can be seen above, Jason Schreier posted on X that they received many DMs over concerns about a possible GTA 6 delay. However, they reported that they spoke to six Rockstar employees, and none of them had heard of any such delay. They continued by suggesting that the game’s scheduled release in 2025 could slip:
“Bad news: it's a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive.”
In the follow-up post on X, they clarified that the six Rockstar employees they spoke to weren’t “informed” of a GTA 6 delay. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean a delay won't happen. According to Jason Schreier, the company’s executive team could have decided to delay Grand Theft Auto 6 months ago without informing the rest of the team.
They reassured fans in the end that the ongoing rumor was nothing but “nonsense,” as suggested by the lack of any internal announcement regarding the same.
The rumor spread online when an X account, @billsyliamgta, claimed (in a now-deleted post) that the upcoming title has been delayed as per their sources.
Jason Schreier’s report today (September 9) comes as a reminder for gamers to take rumors with a grain of salt until confirmed by official sources.
