GTA 6 mapping project hints at a 2.55x bigger map than GTA 5: Report

The latest version of the GTA 6 mapping project was uploaded on April 12, 2024, showing a significant increase in landmass than the previous iterations. Interestingly, GTAForums user lxr suggests that it could be 2.55 times bigger than the map of GTA 5. For those unaware, this mapping project is being carried out by a group of fans using information from the leaks and the official trailer to chalk out what GTA 6's map might look like.

The project's measurement estimates are based on the units of Rockstar Games' proprietary game engine: RAGE. This allows for rough size comparisons between the sequel's speculated map and that of Rockstar's 2013 title. Nevertheless, readers are advised to take this information with a grain of salt.

GTAForums user lxr stated that the landmass in the latest GTA 6 mapping project (v0.045) has an area of 125 square kilometers, suggesting that this would be 2.55 times the size of that in GTA 5.

Although this is just a speculated GTA 6 map layout, it should be noted that a similar fan project was carried out prior to GTA 5's launch, and it was very close to the official version. Therefore, if this project is anywhere near accurate, the sequel could mark a significant improvement over the 2013 game in terms of map size.

An official look at the GTA 6 map is yet to arrive, but Rockstar Games has stated the upcoming title will be the biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.

Fans also believe it might feature multiple cities. This was suggested by the September 2022 GTA 6 leaks and is depicted in the mapping project. At the time of writing this article, we know that Vice City will be one of the locations in the GTA 6 map.

Other locations mentioned in the project and leaks, like Port Gellhorn and Yorktown, are yet to be confirmed. However, they might show up in GTA 6 trailer 2, rumored to arrive soon, possibly close to the next earnings call of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games' parent company) in May 2024.
