GTA 6 release expected to slip to 2026, delay announcement may come soon

In his report, Jason Schreier shared that he expects GTA 6 to be delayed to 2026 despite the game currently being scheduled for a fall 2025 release. Giving the reason behind their expectations, he said the following:

“The next Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, the pressure to make it great is inordinate and developer Rockstar Games has vowed to avoid forcing excessive overtime during the final months of development.”

If GTA 6 release date is likely to be delayed to 2026, fans can expect an announcement on it soon, as predicted by a couple of insiders.

In a GTA Forum, popular Rockstar insider Tez2 shared that fans can expect either a Grand Theft Auto 6 delay announcement or a release date confirmation from Rockstar as soon as February 2025 or May 2025.

According to them, the developers usually confirm the release date by late January or early February of the launch year. The absence of the game’s highly anticipated trailer 2 raises concerns about the possible delay.

Yesterday, January 3, 2025, another insider (@Mvbrr) claimed that the game has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and the absence of trailer 2 is linked to it. They suggested fans can expect an announcement of the same as early as next month.

All of these insiders and reporters expecting the GTA 6 release date to be delayed increases its possibility. If Grand Theft Auto 6 is indeed delayed, Rockstar Games could release the second trailer mentioning the game’s release date of 2026.

However, as of this writing, the upcoming title in the Grand Theft Auto series is set to release in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Readers are advised to take these reports with a grain of salt until Rockstar confirms any delay themselves.
