Reputed video game journalist Jason Schreier has just reported an intriguing bit of information about GTA 6 in his latest article for Bloomberg. According to him, Rockstar Games asked its writers to be "less crude toward transgender people and other minorities" in the upcoming GTA title. Here's what was written in the said article:
"Bloomberg News has reported that GTA 6 will star a pair of playable characters, a man and woman inspired by the criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde, and that Rockstar is asking its writers to be less crude toward transgender people and other minorities, the common targets of throwaway gags in previous versions."
Jason Schreier is a very reliable name in the gaming industry and has had a great track record when it comes to the next Grand Theft Auto installment. One of the best examples of this was in 2023 when he reported about the possibility of a new GTA 6 announcement being around the corner, and the arrival of the title's first trailer was announced later that day.
That said, since this isn't official information coming directly from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, readers should still take it with a grain of salt.
Rockstar reportedly asked its writers to be less crude toward transgender people and other minorities in GTA 6
Some fans have been expecting Grand Theft Auto 6 to be a little toned down as compared to its predecessors, especially after reports from back in 2022 about Rockstar Games allegedly removing transphobic jokes from Grand Theft Auto 5.
And now, Jason Schreier has suggested that the developer asked its writers to be less crude toward transgender people and other minorities in its sequel. Whether that will be the case remains to be seen until the title comes out in 2025.
Apart from this information, Jason Schreier reported in the same article that Grand Theft Auto 6 had missed multiple deadlines:
"GTA 6 has already missed multiple deadlines, a common practice at Rockstar, but Take-Two says it’s now on track."
The last few major Rockstar releases, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, experienced delays.
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, announced Fall 2025 as the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title's release window during its May 2024 earnings call. The same release window has been reiterated by the company in the following earnings calls until now.
