GTA Online server down troubleshooting guide

The Grand Theft Auto Online server down issue can also affect your computer’s internet connection in worst-case scenarios. To make sure the connection is restored as quickly as possible, it’s vital to check whether everything is working fine from your end.

Let's look at what you need to do to troubleshoot any possible connection issues on your system.

If you’re using a firewall or router, you need to access them and change your NAT type. Firstly, check if the following network ports are open or not:

  • Port 61458 (UDP)
  • Port 61456 (UDP)
  • Port 61457 (UDP)
  • Port 61455 (UDP)
  • Port 6672 (UDP)

If they are all open, proceed to change your DNS (Domain Name Servers):

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click Network or Internet.
  3. Go to Advanced Network Settings.
  4. Select Change Adaptor.
  5. Right-click on your Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (whichever you use to play the game), and select Properties.
  6. Make sure the TCP/IPv4 or Internet Protocol Version 4 is turned on.
  7. Then click Properties again.
  8. Choose 'Use the following DNS.'
  9. Enter Preferred DNS server - 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS server - 8.8.4.4
  10. Click Validate settings.
  11. Choose OK.
  12. Now select TCP/IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) and make sure it’s turned on.
  13. Go to Properties.
  14. Enter Preferred DNS server - 2001:4860:4860::8888 and Alternate DNS server - 2001:4860:4860:8844
  15. Validate settings.
  16. Click Ok.

You can also try resetting your connection by unplugging the network router for about 10 minutes, plugging it back again, and trying to connect to the game's servers.
